Shillong Teer Lottery Introduction

Teer is a unique, archery-based gambling game legalized in the Indian state of Meghalaya. It blends traditional archery with betting, attracting both locals and tourists.

A group of archers from 12 different archery clubs, under the Khasi Hills Archery Sports Association, shoot arrows at a cylindrical bamboo target. The number of arrows that hit the target determines the winning number. The game is played every day except Sundays and holidays at the Polo Ground in Shillong.

There are two rounds of shooting.

• In the first round, 50 archers shoot 30 arrows each. The result for this round is declared at 3:45 PM.

• In the second round, the number of archers is reduced to 30, and each shoots 20 arrows.The result for the second round is announced at 4:45 PM.

The atmosphere at the Shillong Teer ground is electric. The anticipation and excitement among the crowd are palpable. While primarily a men's game in terms of participation, women are welcome to watch and place bets. The game's popularity has inspired similar versions in other parts of Meghalaya, such as Khanapara Teer, Juwai Teer, and Jowai Ladrymbai Teer.

Shillong Teer is more than just a game; it is a source of livelihood for many in Meghalaya. Legalized under the Meghalaya Amusements and Betting Tax (Amendment) Act 1982, it provides employment to thousands of people, from archers to ticket sellers. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the game was even live-streamed on Facebook to ensure its continuity while maintaining social distancing norms. This move highlighted the game's economic importance to the state.

Game Details

Shillong Teer Lottery Rules:

• To participate, one can buy tickets with numbers ranging from 0 to 99.

• The bets can be as low as ₹10 and can go up to ₹100.

• If a person guesses the last two digits of the number of arrows that hit the target correctly in the first round, they win ₹800 for every ₹10 bet.

• For the second round, the winning amount is ₹600 for every ₹10 bet.

• A "forecast" is when a person correctly predicts the numbers for both rounds, and the prize for this is a whopping ₹40000.
